Comparisons of this type are always made to the same period time a year prior. It’s a way of controlling for as many factors as possible, and it eliminates other factors that are current. What such a comparison shows is that — an entire year ago, when things were not like today, in the same 18-hour window as now, the NYC poison center was called 13 times for household product exposure emergencies, but in the current time frame — IMMEDIATELY after the president’s statements, that number doubled — AND the specific products he mentioned were the majority of those calls.
This is not “data”, as you call it, but a kind of barometer. It might be better if we read the barometer and use it effectively, rather than stand in the pouring rain and claim we’re not getting wet.
